2. How We Use Your Information

We use your information only to operate and improve the Extension, in compliance with Chrome Web Store policies and the Google API Limited Use Policy.

Providing Core Features

Generating AI responses, saving tooltips and notes, retrieving annotations when you revisit a webpage.

Account Security & Access Control

Authentication, managing private versus public content, and preventing unauthorized access.

Collaborative Features

Allowing you to publish Pages publicly and enabling others to view, comment on, or fork them.

Billing & Usage Tracking

Monitoring token consumption (both free and with your own API key) and enforcing usage limits.

Service Improvement

Using anonymized analytics to identify bugs, improve performance, and develop new features.

3. Data Storage, Security, and Retention

A. Security Measures

We take your privacy seriously and follow industry best practices:

  • **Encrypted Transmission:** All communication uses HTTPS/SSL.
  • **Secure Storage:** Personal data, hashed passwords, and encrypted API keys are stored in a secured PostgreSQL database.
  • **Data Minimization:** We request only the minimal permissions required for the Extension to function.

B. Data Retention

We retain your data as long as your account is active or needed to provide the service.

  • **If you delete your account:** Your personal data is permanently removed.
  • **Public UGC** (e.g., pages others have forked) may remain in anonymized form to preserve community integrity.

4. Data Sharing and Disclosure

We do not sell your data.

We share data only in the following cases:

A. With AI Providers

When generating AI responses, your selected text—and optionally full page content—is sent to the AI provider you choose (OpenAI, Gemini).

These requests follow secure HTTPS communication and are subject to each provider’s privacy policy.

B. With Other Users

If you make a Page public, the following becomes visible to other users:

  • Page content (tooltips, responses)
  • Page title and description
  • Your optional public profile information (name, profession, links)

Private pages are never shared publicly.

C. Legal Compliance

We may disclose data if required by law, subpoena, or lawful requests from authorities.

5. Your Rights

Depending on your location (e.g., GDPR regions), you may have the following rights:

  • **Access:** View your personal data stored in your account.
  • **Correction:** Update your account information at any time.
  • **Deletion:** Request permanent deletion of your account and personal data.
  • **Withdraw Consent:** Uninstall the Extension and/or delete your account to stop data processing.
